Hooks, Hooks, Hooks

June 15, 2010 by JWood 2 Comments

Keith over at the Singlebarbed blog gave a heads-up on some super sweet deals for bulk packs of vintage Mustad hooks on Ebay.

Like a few others, I jumped in and bought more of the old hooks than I’ll ever need.  It may take a couple decades to tie all of them up, but I’m a sucker for a steal.

That fellow continues to have about 350,000 hooks up on ebay, although I’m starting to see the occasional size and style vanish.

I’ve officially sworn off buying more – but only after buying about 100,000 of the little SOB’s… The rest are yours.

I’m a huge fan of the ring eyed 4450’s which are still available in 5. 7. 9. and 11 – it’s a great nymph hook – although some may not like the ring eye (which I do).

… and there are plenty of the 57552 dry fly hooks left.

The sleeper’s are the oddball short shank hooks; 234B, 267B, and 254’s – I bend the shank down a bit and it’s a nice Czech style hook. 234B is X Strong – 267 and 254 are normal wire. (all are offset points)
