Rippin’

June 27, 2010 by JWood Leave a Comment

Yeah. It's high.

River flows jumped about 1,000 cfs overnight after a combination of mild temperatures and a major rainstorm that dumped on snow sent plenty of moisture flowing down the valley.  But the day was beautiful, warm and sunny, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fish.

We floated a short section of stream that normally takes three times as long to navigate.  We stopped where we could, seeking out the slow pocket water in the margins where trout were hanging.  The old lady worked on her cast.  I learned that I need to bring an anchor for the boat everywhere I go, as we floated by way too much water that should have been fished.

Caught some fish on a San Juan worm and pheasant tail nymph combo with multiple sinkers.  We didn’t take pics, as my fiancee was trying to keep the boat from floating away when I hauled them in.  We probably should have caught more, but it was a great day anyway.
